Will authorizing Congress to call a convention to reopen our nation’s foundational document in an already polarized political environment usher in unity, restraint, and calm? Will it really be a cure for financial calamity? I doubt it. And I suspect many Americans do too.

In times of frustration with Washington, there is often a temptation to look for sweeping or dramatic solutions. But conservative governance has always valued prudence over impulse. The Constitution already provides tools for states to assert their authority without reopening foundational questions or introducing uncertainty into the system.

Educated and engaged citizens are the foundation of good government. Limiting government growth is possible when we have honest conversations, transparency, and a willingness to tackle tough issues head-on. This is why I always try to promote open dialogue and public education on the critical issues facing Idaho.

Meeting Coach Kennedy was especially meaningful for me, because he embodies what America is all about. The first three words of the U.S. Constitution are “We the People”.
