Carl Bjerke
Senator | District 5
Senator Carl Bjerke represents Idaho Legislative District 5 in Kootenai County. First elected to
the Idaho Senate in 2022, he serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee
and serves on the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee as a member of the Senate Finance
Committee, helping develop Idaho’s state budget.
Before entering the Legislature, Carl spent 32 years in the fire service, retiring as Deputy Chief
of Operations for the City of Santa Monica Fire Department. His career in public safety included
responsibility for emergency operations, EMS, personnel, budgeting, and organizational
leadership.
In the Senate, Carl focuses on responsible budgeting, protecting taxpayers, public safety,
healthcare access and affordability, housing affordability, and ensuring government remains
limited, accountable, and focused on its proper responsibilities. His approach to public service is
grounded in faith, personal responsibility, individual liberty, and servant leadership. Carl and his
wife, Lesli, live in Coeur d’Alene.
